As a listener and counsellor, my role is to create a safe and respectful environment where patients feel comfortable sharing their concerns. I listen carefully and attentively, making sure I fully understand their symptoms, worries, and expectations. I also pay attention to non-verbal cues and ask follow-up questions when needed to get a complete picture. I take a patient-centred approach by considering not only the medical condition but also any social or emotional factors that may affect the patient’s health and treatment. I explain diagnoses, treatment plans, and preventive measures in clear, simple terms so patients can understand and make informed decisions about their care. I also provide guidance on lifestyle changes and coping strategies where appropriate, while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries. When necessary, I refer patients to other specialists for further support. Overall, my role is to combine good communication with clinical care to improve patient understanding, trust, and treatment outcomes.
