In the Caribbean, I have dedicated significant time as a volunteer listener and counselor in schools and community organizations. I provide services free of charge to individuals who often lack access to formal mental health care. In schools, I work with students facing academic stress, family challenges, and peer relationship issues. In community settings, I support adults navigating grief, financial stress, and interpersonal difficulties. This experience has taught me to meet clients where they are—both emotionally and logistically. I have learned to listen deeply, offer nonjudgmental support, and help individuals feel heard even when formal resources are limited. It has also deepened my cultural competence, as I work within Caribbean communities where family involvement, community trust, and culturally specific expressions of distress are central to effective support.
