‘[We] are encouraged to listen to our hearts, listen to our inner voices, and listen to our guts, but rarely are we encouraged to listen carefully and with intent to other people.’ - Source: Murphy (2020) My name is Moksha. I’ve been studying psychology for 7+ years, starting from high school, to completing a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Psychology, to now finally completing my Master’s in the same subject with a specialisation in Clinical Psychology. Back in my postgraduation days, my curiosity and thirst for reading, knowing, and learning led me to this book, You’re Not Listening by Kate Murphy. Venturing into it further gave a base to my active listening skills. Active listening is a skill that I have mastered over the years, and this role perfectly aligns with me using it at the right platform for the right cause. Most recently, I interned as a research intern with The Human Aspect (Norway), where I worked on developing professional descriptions from lived-experience interviews. This role required me to listen deeply, understand sensitive psychological themes such as trauma and abuse, and translate these experiences with nuance and empathy.
