I am an active listener who believes that every person deserves to feel heard, understood, and respected. Through my work as a counsellor and my experience with students, teachers, and parents, I have learned that listening with patience and empathy is one of the most powerful ways to support someone. I give my full attention to the speaker, without interrupting, judging, or rushing them. I focus on their words, tone, emotions, and body language to understand what they truly want to express. My educational and work experiences have strengthened my listening skills. As a school counsellor, I meet children and young adults who face academic pressure, emotional difficulties, behavioural concerns, and relationship issues. Active listening helps me build trust so clients feel safe to share their thoughts openly. I use simple questions, gentle prompts, and reflective statements to show that I am fully present in the conversation. In my work with teachers, parents, and learners on mental well-being topics, I practice active listening to understand their challenges, expectations, and needs. This allows me to create better guidance, lesson plans, and mental-health content that is meaningful and supportive. Active listening has also helped me manage sensitive situations, handle conflicts, and provide comfort during difficult moments. I listen not only to respond but to truly understand. I believe that when people feel listened to, they feel valued, and this becomes the first step toward healing and growth. My goal is to continue using active listening to help others feel supported, confident, and emotionally safe.
